ACDAM SICSS 2025
THE ACDAM Summer Institutes in Computational Social Science 2025

From May 7-16, 2025, the African Center for Data Analytics and Modelling (ACDAM) will host the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science at Zetech University's Mang’u Campus in Kenya. The institute aims to connect graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career faculty with an interest in computational social science. It welcomes both social scientists and data scientists.

The Summer Institute seeks to bring together individuals with varying levels of expertise in computational social science. Participants with limited experience in social science research will need to complete preparatory readings, while those less familiar with coding will be required to complete online modules on the R programming language. A teaching assistant will provide support through online office hours during the two months leading up to the institute.

The program will feature lectures, collaborative problem-solving sessions, and participant-led research projects. Guest speakers from academia, industry, and government will share their expertise in computational social science. Topics will include text analysis, web scraping, digital experiments, machine learning, and ethics. Participants will have opportunities to engage with organizers, fellow attendees, and guest speakers to discuss their research and ideas. To uphold a commitment to open and reproducible research, all materials created during the institute will be shared as open-source resources.

The program is open to graduate students, postgraduates, and early-career researchers from all fields, with a focus on encouraging participation from underrepresented groups in computational social science. Approximately 25 participants will be selected, and full attendance for the two-week program is required.
